Day 5

It was a good day. We arrived at the baby house at 8:00 am and wondered how Justin would be today. We had left on such a high note yesterday we weren’t sure if we’d be back at square one or if he might allow us to love him. We were thrilled to realize he seemed pretty pleased we were there. We walked back and forth across the room for a while, and then settled down for some Cheerios, juice and blueberry yogurt. The time seemed to go fast with Justin, and we even had some giggles while he pushed a small beach ball back and forth with his new daddy, and especially when we brought out the old “one, two three woopsy daisy!” All in all we had a very nice visit.

At 10:00 am in came Paige along with a bowl of kasha and a small bottle of juice. Paige wore her kasha well as Chris tried to feed it to her. As you can see by the photos, more came out on her bib than ended up in her stomach! After breakfast she played with some of the toys we brought before she fell asleep.

Then we had round two with Justin. He was not feeling well at all and came into the room pretty grouchy. When a caretaker brought in his lunch, he started to fuss and did not want to eat any of it. We thought maybe he was full from the yogurt and his 10:00 am cookies and milk, so they thought it would be a good idea to take him outside for a bit and maybe the fresh air would get his appetite going. They dressed the poor kid up in snow pants, a jacket, and boots that were about three sizes too big for him!! We brought him outside, but he couldn’t walk in the oversized garb, so we carried him around a bit and he fell fast asleep. Tomorrow we’re going to bring the snowsuit and boots we brought for him and take him for a little walk before lunch.

During our visit we sat with the baby house director and she answered all our questions about Paige and Justin. She also asked us not to be in a hurry to take them back to our apartment since Justin was still trying to shake a bad chest cold, and we’re waiting to see if Paige contracted Rubella. At this point it looks like we may take the children back to our apartment on March 1, and our court was moved up to March 4.

We headed back to the city, cooked up some pasta and jar sauce (yum) and after we catch up on emails, will settle in and watch our first DVD movie on the laptop. As our first week draws to a close, we’re feeling much better about everything. Those first few days were rough, with our being jet lagged, Justin being so shut down, and our emotions running so high. Now we are starting to think about what sights we’d like to take in and how much of the Kazakh culture we can absorb so we’ll have lot’s to share with the children about the country of their birth.

Kasha, kasha, kasha!

C'mon mom, I'd like more in my mouth, less on my face!

Happy girl

Good grief, can't you see I just want to take a nap?!

You expect me to walk in this gettup?
