Day 12
Since Paige did not break out in Rubella (thankfully) and her incubation period is over, today was the first day they let us visit with the children together!
We were playing with Justin and after about a ½ hour, in came Paige. As usual, Justin wasn’t terribly interested since he prefers our undivided attention. She, on the other hand, was excited to join us. He kept crawling in the opposite direction of where we were, so we just had to bring Paige to where he was. We were alone in the room and introduced them slowly. Things looked good when he passed her one of his toys, and reached out to touch her, but then the moment was gone. We fed Paige her kasha and Justin his milk and cookies and they both watched each other eat. Then the director came in and told us that after they eat we should put them together. What no one seemed to realize (except us) was that Justin usually goes down for a nap after his snack, so he started to become more and more irritable. So there we were, forcing the kids on each other while the director, the doctor, and Gulnara looked on. Justin wanted no part of it and became increasingly grouchy until he broke out into a full-blown temper tantrum. Of course all his screaming got Paige started, and the two of them were wailing as we shoved them into snowsuits and brought them outside. It was a beautiful day so after a couple of minutes in the fresh air they both fell asleep. In the middle of all this, the director’s daughter came into the room. We were told she is currently going to University and wants to practice her English. She’s the baby house director’s daughter so we couldn't exactly say, “We’re a little busy here, can you come back later?” So we tried to hold a conversation with her as the kids are fussing and crying. It was pretty ridulous!
We had asked earlier on if we could take photos of the children’s rooms so that later on we can show them where they used to live. Chris got geared up in a caretaker house coat and face mask to head up to the second floor and got several photographs. We fed Justin his lunch and headed back to Almaty. Two more days of visiting the kids together, and then we can bring them home. We can’t wait. Sorry there's not more photos, but we'll try to do better tomorrow.
We picked up 2 tickets for the ballet for Sunday night. 30 tenge (about $25) for two, second row center seats. We’re not sure why these seats are still available one day before the show, but we’ll let you know tomorrow!
