Day 21
Well, our little elf Paige would not let us sleep last night, so alas, we did not get out today because we are each feeling exhausted and possibly coming down with colds as well. Stress, lack of sleep (and babies sneezing in our faces for 3 weeks), will do that to you, we suppose. (The folks here think we’re feeling sick because we didn’t wear our coats last Friday, when it was also about 50 degrees! They’ve got some major issues with cold!! They think it’s the cause of everything that goes wrong…we find it pretty amusing.)
So we were trapped in the apartment all day, prisoners to our babies’ schedules, with the sun shining and a balmy 50 degrees outside. Justin was in a real grumpy mood this morning but thankfully, after his after-lunch nap he was in better spirits. Paige was up from about 2:30-3:30 am last night, so she woke up at 7:00 am instead of her scheduled 6:00 am. She did her usual eat, up for 2 hours, nap for 2 hours, up again to eat routine. But when she yawned and got cranky at about 5pm (our sign she’s ready for her next nap), she decided she didn’t want one and cried for as long as we could take it before we let her back out to play. We’re starting to see her show her personality. So far she’s shown us that she’s going to want to watch a lot of TV, she loves music, she’s going to be a big talker, and she doesn’t want to miss a beat. Even when she’s in the middle of a bottle, her head will whip around to see what her brother is doing now. Nothing gets past Paige!
Today was a milestone day in Justin’s life. HE TOOK HIS FIRST STEPS!!! He’s been walking around the apartment holding onto everything the past week, and we’ve been holding his hands and walking around. He liked it when we would stand him up and he would fall down and go “boom”. But today when we did it, he threw his arms up in the air for balance, and with a big grin just went for it! He took about 4 or 5 steps before he did fall, but he was super proud of himself, as were we! We were screaming with glee and clapping our hands for him…yup, we’re parents now! He’s really coming out of his shell, making all kinds of baby talk noises and doing little things he thinks will make us laugh. We’re so happy for him…he’s had such a tragic start and it’s wonderful to see him trusting us and exploring and expanding his boundaries.
So Paige has been up since 3:00 pm, and we put her down to sleep at 8:00 pm and she went to sleep without a peep. Her baby house schedule calls for a bottle of fowl-smelling kefir at 10:00 pm. We’re not sure if we should wake her for that to insure she’ll sleep through the night or not. We’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow!
